CURRIE DISINVITED TO INTERNATIONAL MISSION BOARD At press time, TBC Executive Director David Currie, is waiting for a letter from SBC International Mission Board President Jerry Rankin, to disinvite him from meeting personally with him and members of the IMB staff. The invitation to meet with Rankin and members of the IMB staff was extended in early February by IMB trustee, David Evans, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas. At that point, Evans said, “We want to meet with you and answer any questions you might have. We will show you anything you want to see, budget expenditures, records, etc.” Currie accepted the invitation during a public presentation he made at the Mainstream Baptist Network Convocation in Charlotte, on February 16. Following the meeting Currie wrote an official letter to Jerry Rankin to accept the invitation and to tell Rankin he wanted to have a discussion at their meeting about the issues that led to the decision in which the IMB asked missionaries to sign the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. In early June, Currie phoned Evans to follow-up on the status of the meeting. Evans informed Currie that Rankin was writing a letter to rescind the invitation. More news on this event will be reported in the next newsletter. June 2002 |
