SBC Putting on Full
Court Press
Southern Baptist leaders, led by Morris Chapman,
president of the Executive Committee of the SBC, are calling upon
their supporters to be at Corpus Christi to vote against budget
recommendations passed by the administrative committee and executive
board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Many Texans have never received any mail from
the SBC at their home address (David Currie for example). Last
week they received SBC Life magazine. In addition they received
the slick mail out, "The Truth about Texas Baptists and the SBC."
Obviously the SBC Executive Committee is willing to spend thousands
of dollars to misrepresent the BGCT to Texas Baptists.
Ken Hemphill, president of Southwestern Seminary,
is encouraging students to attend the convention and vote against
the proposed budget. Baptist Press is writing stories almost daily
to attack and accuse BGCT leaders of anything they can come up
with. In one story they wrote about a 20 year old sermon of Daniel
Vestal and material from Joel Gregory's book.
Please help the ill-informed Texas Baptists
know the truth about the BGCT and the leaders of the SBC. Come
to Corpus Christi as a messenger, now is the time keep Texas Baptists
focused on Jesus.
For those who come to Corpus Christi, we do
not want to treat those who disagree with us the way we were treated
at the annual meetings of the SBC. Many of those who follow the
leaders of the SBC (Southwestern students for example) are sincere
Christians who are misinformed.
