JIMMY GARCIA TO BE BREAKFAST SPEAKER Jimmy Garcia III, Ethnic Missions Coordinator for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will be the speaker for the eleventh annual Texas Baptists Committed breakfast. Garcia is well known to Texas Baptists for his leadership among Hispanic Baptists. The breakfast will be at 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, Woodland Ballroom at the El Paso Hilton Airport. Breakfast seating is limited to 750, therefore we will not accept phone reservations. Unfortunately, this is the largest space for a breakfast we could find in El Paso. Tickets are $15 and will be issued according to the first reservations forms/payments we receive. "This is a high mark for us to have such a person of integrity, courage, heart and vision as Jimmy Garcia. Texas Baptists need to hear him as we prepare to enter a new millennium with shared leadership having ethnic diversity. The Hispanic population explosion is no secret in Texas. We are thrilled to have Jimmy help us focus on our future together," said David Currie, coordinator of TBC. "Jimmy is one of many excellent Hispanic leaders that enrich the work of Texas Baptists. I am grateful to God for the opportunity and privilege of working together to build the Kingdom of God." Garcia is a native of Texas, graduated from Howard Payne University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a Mary Hill Davis Scholarship recipient, 1967-1971. He has been the pastor of Texas Baptist churches in Miles, Corsicana and Fort Worth. He then joined the staff at San Antonio Baptist Association and in 1980 became its Associate Director of Missions. In 1990, he came to the BGCT to serve as the Ethnic Missions Coordinator. Garcia and his wife, Dolores, have three children: Laura, Matthew and Anna. October 1999 |
