A SPECIAL THANK
YOU TO THE TBC
STAFF AND
SUPPORTERS I have been involved in this ministry for nine years, since January 1, 1988. The first two-and-a-half years were on the SBC level as we tried to stop the fundamentalist takeover of the SBC. Then I worked part-time starting in July, 1990, with Texas Baptists Committed. On April 1, 1992, I went to full time work with TBC. We had no idea if we could raise the money to fund this ministry, but you graciously gave and the work grew. Our individual mailing list is now eight times larger than in April, 1992. As the workload grew, we moved the office out of my home to a building that is a renovated hospital. I was born there in 1952. Then we hired Charlotte Caffey as office manager. Last year we were able to add Charles McLaughlin as associate coordinator. There is no way I could do the job without their help. I want to publicly thank Charlotte and Charles for being so committed to this ministry and for the long, stressful hours they worked during the last three months. I would also be remiss if I did not thank them for putting up with me. This ministry is very important to me, and I believe, to God’s Kingdom, so as convention time nears, I expect everything to have been done yesterday. I get a little intense! I also want to thank our financial contributors that have made it possible to have Charlotte and Charles and to mail our newsletter to more than 20,000 individuals and churches. I believe you have made a significant contribution to God’s work through Texas Baptists. Thank you! Finally, I want to thank Dean Dickens and Mauriece Johnston for being such effective leaders of TBC these last two years. They were both wonderful to work with. They both constantly demonstrated courage and integrity. I will miss them. February 1997 |
