John Baugh Writes Enlightening Book John Baugh, layman, from Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston, and TBC Executive Board member, has written a fascinating book relating to events in the SBC over the last 18 years. The book is titled The Battle for Baptist Integrity: Moral Soundness Must Be Restored in Baptist Life! The book addresses the political controversy from the perspective of “integrity.” It explains how the “Baptist Mess” happened and what can be done about it. We will print parts of the book in future newsletters. Below is a quote from the back cover by Russell Dilday and an order form to purchase the book from TBC. Russell H. Dilday Comments On The Battle for Baptist Integrity “This book is not just another among the recent publications about the controversy in the Southern Baptist Convention; it is unique. John Baugh, a corporate leader who is respected in the circles of American big business, sees the denominational events from the perspective of an informed layman. He writes from the road of experience rather then from the balcony of hypothetical theory. He has been there. The book is an eyewitness report. Accurate, forthright and balanced, the book brings accountability to the players in the drama without angry, judgmental vindictiveness. It is obvious that John Baugh feels deeply about his Baptist family and is hurt by what he calls ‘the mess we’re in,’ but his emotions do not invalidate the book’s objectivity. Also helpful are the biblical references and the spiritual and moral coaching that provide guidelines for the future. The author offers hope to his fellow Baptist by suggesting a way forward out of ‘the mess.’ Ministers and lay persons interested in restoring integrity to Baptist life will greatly benefit by reading the book.” September 1996 |
