Jim Kolb: nominee for second vice president Jim Kolb, a layman from Green Acres Baptist Church, Tyler, will be nominated for second vice president at the annual convention by Ellis Orozco, pastor, Corpus Christi Baptist Church. Kolb will be nominated for his integrity, commitment to Texas Baptists, and consistent dedication to cooperative missions work. Kolb became a Christian following a revival meeting at age 11 and was raised in a Christian home. “I do not ever remember being without a daily recognition of God in prayer or study in our home as a youngster,” Kolb stated. After serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps, he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology to work for Standard Oil Co. For eight years he and his wife, Gloria, lived in Maracaibo, Venezuela. In 1965 they moved to Tyler where he became active in serving as a laymen in his church. He is now the President and CEO of the Texlan Oil Co., which he organized with a sense of direction from God. His desire was to create an oil business that would provide a Christian atmosphere where Christian people could work and not feel out of place. Kolb has worked with Billy Graham Crusade, served as a lay preacher, committee worker, Sunday School teacher, and very active in assisting a home for abandoned boys started by a Venezuelan pastor. Kolb is a strong supporter of BGCT leaders and Texas 2000. He stated, “Gloria and I feel the BGCT program is directed by God and will continue to be blessed by our Heavenly Father.” October 1996 |
