Fundamentalists Criticize Messenger Seating Committee and Credentials Committee The latest issue of The Texas Baptist has several articles criticizing the work of the Credentials Committee at last years BGCT annual meeting and the recently completed work of the Messenger Seating Study Committee appointed to study the issue. This committee’s report will be a major issue at this year’s annual meeting in Fort Worth. The Texas Baptist said, “A straw poll of the 1995 credentials committee showed they would have agreed to vote on seating messengers from a church that had ordained a practicing Fundamentalists Criticize Messenger Seating Committee and Credentials Committee homosexual.” Texas Baptist editor J. Walt Carpenter also says Texas Baptists are “winking” at the issue of homosexuality. In fact, reading The Texas Baptist, one gets the impression that the entire purpose of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is to promote abortion and the acceptance of a homosexual lifestyle! These statements are false! We asked 1995 credentials committee Kim Snyder to respond to these charges and explain what really happened at last year’s BGCT annual meeting.
