Letter to the Editor Dear Dr. Currie:
My roots go deep as to my Baptist heritage. My father began his ministry as pastor of the First Baptist Church, Lewisville, Texas, in 1904. Before my retirement in 1978 I had preached some 40 years here in Texas, 24 of which were with the Indian Hills Church in Grand Prairie. For the last five years I have been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Arlington. I would like to speak a good word about my pastor, Dr. Charles Wade. I believe I am qualified to speak in his behalf. He is a true Southern Baptist from feet to crown. When it comes to Baptist doctrine he is as solid as oak and rock. He is a gracious pastor, leading his flock as a good shepherd and a pleasing example before his members. He loves his people and it is amazing how he can call the names of so many in his large congregation. Right at this time, Dr. Wade is preaching a series of sermons relating to “The Baptist Faith and Message.” Five years in our church have been the privilege of a lifetime and a blessing beyond measure. I believe all people who speak concerning Dr. Wade’s ministry should know him before they speak. Sincerely, John T. Allen, *Editor’s note: We do not solicit letters to the editor. This letter arrived in our mail box and we deemed it worthy of sharing with Texas Baptists. We appreciate Rev. Allen’s love and support of his pastor. October 1995 |
