TBC EXPANDS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE We have expanded our Executive Committee to be more inclusive of all Texas Baptists. We are thrilled that TBC seems to have the support of so many of the different constituencies in the BGCT. Our Executive Committee should reflect this support. We have added three Hispanic Texas Baptist leaders to our committee. Sam Medina, pastor of Alliance Baptist Church, Lubbock; Rudy Sanchez, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Houston; and Ramiro Pena, Jr., pastor of Christ the King Baptist Church, Waco. Both Medina and Sanchez are past presidents of the Mexican Baptist Convention, and Pena currently serves as first vice president of the Mexican Baptist Convention. With Hispanics the fastest growing ethnic group in the state, we as Texas Baptists must focus tremendous evangelistic and ministry efforts in the Hispanic community. Michael Bell, pastor of Greater St. Stephen Baptist, Fort Worth, has come on the committee as another African-American member. We hope to add others shortly. Five talented and active Texas women have agreed to serve on our board. Three have strong WMU ties: Ophelia Humphrey from First Baptist, Amarillo; Donna Vernon from First Baptist Leveland; and Melissa Becker from University Heights, Huntsville. At TBC, we love and appreciate the WMU. We value their support and treasure the work they do supporting Baptist missions. Jaclenal McFarland, an attorney from Spring, also joins our committee. She is a member of Baptist Temple, Houston, and on the Baylor Board of Regents. Sandra Womack, a realtor from First Baptist, Pasadena. April 1995 |
