RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE WOMAN’S MISSIONARY UNION WHEREAS the woman’s Missionary Union began both the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for foreign missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter offering for home missions; and WHEREAS these offerings raise approximately one-half of all money used by the Southern Baptist Convention Foreign Mission Board and Home Mission Board; and WHEREAS the Woman’s Missionary Union has never taken any of the money raised from these offerings, and WHEREAS in the recent restructuring proposal approved by the southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, responsibility for these offerings was now given to the two Southern Baptist mission boards; and WHEREAS the justification given for this action was because the Woman’s Missionary Union is an auxiliary that promotes missions and elects its own board and refuses trustee control by the Southern Baptist Convention; BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we, the members of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas assembled in Dallas, March 7, 1995, do hereby express our deep appreciation to both the Texas and national Woman’s Missionary Union, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we affirm the decision of the national Woman’s Missionary union to remain an auxiliary free from outside control; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we encourage the Woman’s Missionary Union to support missions and missions education with Baptist churches, Baptist conventions, Baptist fellowships, or Baptist organizations they so choose in their efforts to be obedient to Jesus Christ and His Kingdom’s work.
