BAYLOR NAMES DILDAY INTERIM DEAN FOR TRUETT SEMINARY Waco, Texas—Baylor University President Herbert H. Reynolds named Dr. Russell H. Dilday as interim dean of the university’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary, subject to full Board of Regents’ approval on March 24. Truett’s former dean, Dr. Robert B. Sloan, was recently elected Baylor president, succeeding Dr. Reynolds, effective June 1. Reynolds said that he, Sloan, Baylor Provost Donald D. Schmeltekopf, Board Chair Gale L. Galloway and Vice Chair Randall H. Fields agreed on Dilday’s appointment, which is effective immediately. Dilday is distinguished professor of homiletics at Truett and is special assistant to President Reynolds. Before joining Baylor in 1994, Dilday served for 16 years as president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. “Dr. Dilday’s acceptance of this interim leadership position at Truett frees Dr. Sloan to concentrate on the transition to the Baylor presidency,” said Reynolds, who will become Baylor chancellor on June 1. “Dr. Dilday has graciously consented to serve his alma mater in yet another important assignment while the naming of the permanent dean is being considered. “We are blessed at Baylor to be able to count on the lasting benefits of Russell Dilday’s unique service as our distinguished professor of preaching and as our ambassador at large’ through his appointment as special assistant to the president,” Reynolds added. Provost Schmeltekopf said, “No one is better suited than Dr. Dilday to be the interim dean of Truett Seminary. He is superbly qualified in the field of theological education, and he is also a delightful man with whom to work.” April 1995 |
