Charles Dodson, nominee for second vice president Charlie Dodson, pastor of Central Baptist Church, Carthage, will be nominated for second vice president at the annual convention in Amarillo by Ray Burchette, Director of the Baylor Alumni Association. “I will nominate Charles Dodson, because he is a man of unquestioned integrity and will be a strong leader for Texas Baptists,” Burchette said. “I am proud to nominate Charles, even though he is a graduate of the University of Texas, “ Burchette joked. “I have known Charles for twenty years. He sang in the choir of the church I pastored in Austin as a UT student. Our church ordained Charles. I performed the wedding ceremony for he and his wife, Brenda. After he completed his Master of Divinity degree at Southwestern, he served as my Associate pastor of seven years. I know him well. I respect him. I trust him,” Burchette added. Dodson, a native of San Antonio, has served as pastor of Central Baptist Church in Carthage since 1978. He graduated from the University of Texas, and earned Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southwestern Seminary. Dodson said he would seek “to lead Texas Baptists to continue to cooperate in our mission task, as local churches follow God’s leadership.” He noted, “Our church gave over $231,000 to missions last year and we average only 400 in Sunday School. Texas Baptists believe in missions. We must never lose sight of our mission.” September 1994 |
