THOUGHTS ON GRACE The Clergy Seminar “Caring for the Care Giver: For Ministers Who Do Not Walk on Water” was outstanding. Both Doug Ezell and Myron Maddon were top notch. We hope to repeat this seminar in other parts of the state in the future. The seminar was non-political. The controversy was not discussed. Yet as I listened to these men speak on grace, it hit me how significant what they were saying was to the ministry of Texas Baptists Committed. We are not standing up for Baptist principles against fundamentalism because we want to “control the BGCT.” We are standing up because fundamentalism preaches legalism and legalism enslaves rather than frees. We are standing up because it is vital to the future of this state that we have preachers in pulpits who will preach the Gospel - the Grace of Jesus Christ, and not legalism. We cannot win this state to Christ with fundamentalist theology. Only grace brings people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. |
