DO NOT BE FOOLED TWICE

On December 4, 1986, Paul Pressler did a television interview on the SBC controversy. We found it in our files. We believe his words are worth reprinting for Texas Baptists to read. The same kind of language is being used again in Texas, i.e., that our institutions have people who do not believe the Bible. It is important that we not be fooled again by such non-truths. Here is the statement.

Pressler: “The problem we have had in the convention is that over 90% of Southern Baptists are Conservatives, and we have had institutions that have been maintained by Southern Baptist money that have undermined the very basis of authority that Christians have believed all the generations. I am talking about scripture… when they do not believe that scripture is the Word of God we have no basis for authority. And we have a number of our institutions that were completely devoid of people who believed traditional Christian beliefs.”

Interviewer: “Devoid?”

Pressler: “Yes.”
