Texas Baptists Committed is dedicated to reaching people for Christ through local churches; promoting and defending historic Baptist principles; spreading an understanding of Baptist heritage and distinctives through education; and cooperating with the mission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and its related institutions.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF SBC IS CAUSE FOR REFLECTION

On several occasions in recent weeks, BGCT leaders have mentioned with pride that Texas Baptists gave more money to Southern Baptist Convention causes last year than all other states combined. Should this be something Texas Baptists leaders are proud of? That should be given serious thought.

We need to clearly understand what blindly supporting the SBC means.

It means Texas Baptists are continuing to support Paige Patterson and Southeastern Seminary to the extent of over $30,000 per Texas student.

It means Texas Baptists are continuing to support the SBC Christian Life Commission which is working hand in hand with Pat Robertson and the Christian Coalition.

It means Texas Baptists are continuing to support Southwestern Seminary, even after the unethical treatment of Russell Dilday, and knowing that theological education at Southwestern will become clearly Fundamentalist in nature in the future.

Saddest of all, it means Texas Baptists do not understand that they are funding many nontraditional Baptist programs, teachings, and actions! Is that something we should be proud of?
