ALBERT REYES TO SPEAK AT TBC ANNUAL BREAKFAST

Albert Reyes, president of the Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio, will be the speaker at the annual Texas Baptists Committed breakfast at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Nov.11, in the Grand Atrium at the Holiday Inn Park Plaza in Lubbock. Tickets are $16 and a reservation form is found on page 22 of this newsletter.

Reyes, the sixth president of HBTS (founded in 1947) has been president since 1999. He has taught at Howard Payne University, Hispanic Baptist Theological School and Truett Seminary.

He is a visionary leader and has been praised as one of the most pivotal figures in shaping the future of Baptist life in Texas. In recent years, he has led the school to accelerate its growth and vision for cross-cultural ministry and missions training.

Reyes was founding pastor of Pueblo Nuevo Community Church in El Paso. Before coming to the El Paso congregation in 1992, the Corpus Christi native was pastor of United in Christ Baptist Church and Iglesia Bautista Alfa, both in Dallas.

He earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Angelo State University, San Angelo, and the master of divinity and doctor of ministry in missiology degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He did additional post-graduate study at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif.

Reyes served as an adjunct professor and academic consultant at Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary, as adjunct instructor at Howard Payne University-El Paso, and as lecturer at Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco. Reyes was founding director of El Paso Baptist Associationís Borderland Leadership Center, director of Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary-El Paso, and founding president of the Intercultural Leadership Network. He is a former trustee of Valley Baptist Academy in Harlingen and has participated in mission projects in Mexico, Brazil, Spain and North Africa. He has served on numerous denominational committees and was the recipient of the George W. Truett Award for ministerial excellence in 2002.

Reyes and his wife, Belinda, have three sons: Joshua, David and Thomas.
