TBC RELEASES PRAYER GUIDE FOR THE BGCT

You should have received our new Prayer Guide for the BGCT. We hope and plan for this to be a regular part of our TBC educational and spiritual mission. Next year we hope to produce a prayer guide for each quarter of the year.

WHY ARE WE PROVIDING THIS PRAYER GUIDE?

The important concern to us is that we must remain united as Texas Baptists so we can be effective partners with God in witnessing for Christ in our state.

We are concerned that many may not be aware of the multitude of  ministries of the BGCT.  Included are eight universities, our aged and children's ministries, our hospitals, our programs like the River Ministry, new church starts and many others. The BGCT needs and deserves our support as an effective partner in sharing the gospel.

The BGCT is involved in many ministries; therefore, we could not include them all in this first prayer guide.  We included approximately one-third of the material we received from various institutions and ministries. Those people not mentioned in the prayer guide will be included in future issues. We are sorry if we did not include your favorite.  The BGCT has not changed. Our priorities and values are the same as 25 years ago. We are using new ideas and strategies, but we, as Texas Baptists, are old-fashioned Baptists. We believe in the principles that have always united Baptists.  They are the authority of Scripture, the priesthood of each believer, local church autonomy and religious liberty.  We believe them to be under the Lordship and ultimate authority of Christ. We especially want you to pray daily for our leader, Dr. Charles Wade. Pray for him as he seeks God's vision to unite Texas Baptists.

HOW TO USE THE PRAYER GUIDE

We want you to pray for certain people, ministries or programs every day.

  1. Pray for BGCT executive director Charles Wade every day.

  2. Pray for the BGCT annual meeting to be held in Dallas Oct. 29-30, 2001

  3. Pray for your local church and your pastor as they seek God's direction in their ministries and outreach programs.

  4. Pray for the specific persons mentioned each week

  5. Pray for unity among Texas Baptists.

In light of recent events, please pray daily for President George Bush and his advisors. Pray also for the families of the victims of our national tragedy.

CONCLUSION

It is time for Texas Baptists to move forward into a new future. We can pray our way to a new, united, Christ-focused future and out of this period of division and discord. We have better, more important things to do as Texas Baptists.  Therefore, it is time to turn our energy and focus on Christ and spreading his kingdom.
