"But there was a statement in the older BFM of 1963, which said that the criterion for the Baptist faith was Christ. We say it is not Christ, but the Bible. Not to say the Bible is more important than Christ is, but to say that, were it not for the Bible, we would not know Christ. We've chosen to return to the original statements of our Baptist faith to say that it is not an experiential basis or criterion. It is not because of my experience that I believe in Christ. I believe in Christ because of the Bible."
