What I would like to see happen with the BGCT
By Dr. Marvin C. Griffin
Pastor, Ebenezer Baptist Church Austin, Texas first vice president, BGCT, 1996-1997

The next five years will present a tremendous challenge to Texas Baptists to write a new history. What it will be depends on our response.

My hope is, that we will grow as Christians, becoming imitators of Christ; that the Church will be the Church, God’s people; and that as Baptists we will be true to our unique identity, manifesting divine diversity and holy community.

My hope for the Convention and its constituencies is, Shalom peace, wholeness, harmony; right relations with ourselves; others and the Lord.

My hope is, that as Baptists, we will be true to our heritage as courageous champions of religious freedom and soul liberty.

Finally, my hope is that The Baptist General Convention of Texas will be empowered by the Holy Spirit and inspired with evangelistic zeal to engage prophetically in a witness that will win Texas for Christ and move triumphantly toward the realization of God’s goal for human history.
