Marvin C. Griffin: nominee for first vice president

Marvin C. Griffin, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Austin will be nominated for first vice-president by Amelia Bishop. “Dr. Griffin is one of the leading African-American pastors in our state. He is an example of cooperation and commitment, “ Bishop stated.

Griffin has served as a member of the Texas Christian Life Commission, the Board of Directors of the Home Mission Board of SBC and the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs. He has also served as a trustee for Hardin-Simmons University and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He was president of the Board of Regents for Texas Southern University. In addition he has been an Adjunct Professor in the Pastoral Ministry Department of Southwestern Seminary since 1992.

Griffin, a native of Wichita Kansas, was educated in the public schools of Dallas. He has several degrees including D. Min. from Austin Presbyterian, MRE from Southwestern Seminary, and a DD at Union Baptist Seminary. Griffin and his wife, Lois, have three daughters; Marva, Gaynelle, and Ria.
