Texas Fundamentalists Hire Staff

Southern Baptists of Texas created and filled its first salaried position in a May 14 meeting in Lubbock. Ronnie Yarber, pastor of Gross Road Baptist Church in Mesquite, was elected administrative director of the organization. Southern Baptists of Texas is comprised of individuals and churches who support the more conservative trend of the Southern Baptist Convention during the past two decades.

Southern Baptists of Texas publishes a newsletter titled the Plumbline. Another organization, Baptists with a Mission, publish The Texas Baptist. Baptists with a Mission president, Ted Tedder, of San Antonio, quoted Winston Churchill in their June newsletter saying “WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP, WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP!”

Both these organizations are working together to gain control of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. We wish this were not the truth. We wish the controversy was dying down rather than getting more heated. The fact is, we must remain diligent if the BGCT is to remain free.

We at Texas Baptists Committed believe you should read these publications. They will help you better understand the fundamentalist mindset. Their publications are full of criticism of the BGCT, staff, and elected leaders. They are not pleasant to read but it is important that you clearly understand the seriousness of the fundamentalist movement.

If you want to receive the Plumbline, write Southern Baptists of Texas, 401 Warrior Trail, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. To receive The Texas Baptist, write Malcolm Murff, Treasurer, 105 E. Arrowhead, San Antonio, TX 78228.
