The Vision: Texas 2000

Now is not the time for Texas Baptists to change course. We are just starting on Texas 2000, a strategic plan for the next five years developed by 74 Texas Baptists from all walks of life across the state. Texas 2000 involves a vision, statement of purpose, priorities and values.

What is the Vision?

To the GLORY OF GOD — SHARE JESUS with EVERY PERSON in Texas by the year 2000; Be a FAMILY of loving, joyful, obedient SERVANTS OF JESUS CHRIST; Seek fresh new DIRECTION and POWER from the HOLY SPIRIT through SCRIPTURE and PRAYER; and DEVELOP Great Commission CHURCHES for ALL PERSONS.

What is the convention’s Purpose?

The Baptist General Convention of Texas exists to encourage and assist churches, associations of churches, institutions and other Baptist entities in FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMISSION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

What are the Priorities?

To SHARE THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST with the people of Texas, the nation and world. (Acts 1:6-8)

To MINISTER TO HUMAN NEEDS in the name of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 25:31-46)

To EQUIP GOD’S PEOPLE for ministry in the church and in the world. (Ephesians 4 13)

To DEVELOP CHRISTIAN FAMILIES. (Colossians 3:16-21)

To STRENGTHEN existing CHURCHES and START new CONGREGATIONS. (Matthew 16:18-19; Acts 15:36)
