INERRANCY - THERE THEY GO AGAIN

The fundamentalist leadership is raising the inerrancy flag once again. When Jack Graham nominated Jim Henry, Graham said “I personally asked him, ‘Will you appoint people who are not inerrantists?’” Jim answered, “Not on your life.”

Henry later affirmed that he would only appoint persons who were “committed to inerrancy and the Cooperative Program.”

Inerrancy is a word that can only divide. That is why we are printing Jim Denison’s excellent article on page 9. Please read it carefully.

The Word of God is not an issue for Texas Baptists. As we wrote in an earlier newsletter, all Texas Baptists are committed to the Word of God. For fundamentalists, it is not enough to believe the Bible as the authoritative Word of God. It is not enough to have personal faith through the leadership of the Holy Spirit. It is not enough to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, was buried and resurrected and is returning again victorious over sin and death. No, you must hold to a man-made doctrine of inspiration regarding the “original autographs” of scripture which no longer exist. Unity is not around Jesus Christ, or the Great Commission.

Unity, for the fundamentalist, is around a theory of inspiration. If you do not hold to the “correct theory of inspiration” it is fine to exclude you. This is divisive.
